Propulsion Testing Engineer

Location
Chennai, India
Type
Full-Time / Internship

About Us

At Hathor, we're building the propulsion layer for the space industry. We specialize in design, development and production of liquid rocket engines for launch vehicles, in-space mobility and strategic applications. With capabilities spanning engine design, manufacturing, testing and qualification, our goal is to become a trusted engine supplier for the global space industry.

Our closed-knit team works across propulsion, turbomachinery, manufacturing, testing and business operations. The ambition isn't simply to build something first but to build systems that compete with the world's best in terms of technology, performance and reliability.

Everyone here has significant ownership and responsibility. You’ll work directly on meaningful problems and see your work shape what we build. We hire carefully because every addition to the team matters.

The people we bring on today will define the company we become tomorrow.

This role is for engineers who are comfortable working with high-pressure systems, structural hardware, and live test environments.

You will:

  • Lead hot-fire and cold-flow test campaigns
  • Own the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of propulsion test rigs
  • Design, validate, and optimize propellant feed and pipeline systems
  • Perform pressure drop analysis, flow calculations, and component sizing
  • Define instrumentation layouts and ensure data integrity throughout testing
  • Monitor real-time test data and make informed technical decisions during firing
  • Ensure strict compliance with oxygen safety and cryogenic handling protocols
  • Investigate test anomalies and drive root-cause analysis and resolution
  • Support the maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, and upgrade of propulsion test rigs and associated mechanical systems‍

We expect:

  • B.E./M.E. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Structural Engineering
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics of materials and structural analysis
  • Clear understanding of stress, strain, buckling, fatigue, and structural failure modes
  • Working knowledge of engineering materials and material selection for high-pressure applications
  • Proficiency in CAD tools for mechanical and structural design
  • Ability to read, interpret, develop, and work with P&ID drawings, with a strong understanding of process and instrumentation interfaces
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing drawings, GD&T, machining processes, and associated manufacturing constraints
  • Familiarity with FEA tools for structural analysis and validation is an advantage
  • Knowledge of high-pressure vessel design, pressure-retaining structures, or propulsion test systems is preferred
  • Ability to understand, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve mechanical systems used in propulsion test rigs
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience is preferred; however, strong fresh graduates with sound fundamentals and a strong interest in hands-on engineering are also encouraged to apply

This is not a simulation-only role. You will work directly with the hardware you help design, prepare, maintain, and validate, and take responsibility for how it performs under real operating conditions.

We are looking for self-driven engineers who believe in what we're building and want to be an active part of it. If you want predictable simulations and clean theoretical problems, this role won't suit you. If you want to design systems that handle cryogens, survive heat and shocks, and push combustion to its limits, let's talk.
